Metro Condominiums in South Osborne

Located in Winnipeg’s vibrant and central South Osborne area, Metro Condominiums is Winnipeg’s first Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).

With close proximity to the Osborne Rapid Transit station, this condo development allows for maximum walkability and creates a low demand for personal vehicle ownership.

Residents living in a TOD spend 16 per cent less time in transit than automobile-dependent neighbourhoods, making it an environmentally friendly choice for homebuyers.

The four-floor condominium development provides an alternative to low-density suburban development and automobile-dependent land use patterns. A TOD provides the infrastructure that supports walking and biking, promoting a healthier lifestyle by making it more convenient to walk than to drive.

The Rise Condominiums in Bridgwater Centre is Certified Energy Efficient by Efficiency Manitoba’s New Buildings Program, which means it is designed to be 42% more energy efficient than a comparable code-compliant building. The Rise exceeds Manitoba Hydro PowerSmart requirements, making it a high-performing building that reduces energy bills and operating costs, extends equipment life, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Sustainable features include:

  • Precast Concrete Superstructure – The main energy benefit of using concrete in buildings is its high thermal mass that leads to thermal stability which reduces peak heating and cooling loads required.
  • Energy Saving LED Lighting throughout all suites and common areas (including corridors, lounge, fitness studio, underground parking garage and exterior)
  • Low VOC Paint used throughout building (volatile organic compounds), which prevents off-gassing
  • WaterSense certified fixtures used in all bathrooms, which use 20% less water than other fixtures
  • ENERGY STAR Certified Appliances
  • Common area heating/cooling/heat reclaiming unit supplies 100% of the fresh air supply to the building, selected due to its high efficiency rating of 75-90%
  • All suites have programmable thermostats compatible with a smartphone app that allows owners to schedule heating/cooling when needed and conserve energy while they are away.

Geothermal Heating

Geothermal heating works by harnessing the heat energy just feet below the earth’s surface and converting it into warm air through the use of geothermal heat pumps (GHPs). These heat pumps are driven by a small amount of electricity (never natural gas) and are by far the most efficient way to heat and cool a home.

Many StreetSide projects have incorporated geothermal heating, including Bridgwater Forest North Condominiums and The MIX Condominiums. The MIX also featured central heat recovery on its fresh air supply.

Looking towards the future
