Where to shop for furniture on a budget

Whether you’re moving into your first place, or downsizing from a large home, decorating and furnishing a new condo can be daunting – and cost some major dough. If you’re working on filling up your space on a budget, here are our top home shopping picks for budget-friendly décor.

IKEA and Structube

Both located at the Seasons of Tuxedo, you can check both shops off your list in one stop. While IKEA is a given for affordable finds for the home – especially convenient storage solutions for all types of spaces – not as many people are familiar with Structube just yet. We love the more intimate shopping experience (compared to IKEA’s massive scale) and incredible price points. Just check out their selection of stylish and affordable dining chairs for an idea of what you can find! With deals like these, expect some (or a lot of) assembly at both Ikea and Structube.

Enjoy the thrill of the hunt at the TJX stores where deals can be found on the daily, with constantly evolving selection. The key to shopping these stores is to snatch up items when you find them – because they’re likely to be gone the next day. The plus side to buying at these stores is that almost everything comes fully assembled – with a great return policy in case you do change your mind.

Second hand

Buying used isn’t just reserved for college students – there are so many one-of-a-kind, statement furniture items listed daily on sites like Kijiji, Facebook swap groups, and garage sale apps, that it’s an ideal way to score quality furniture at a fraction of the price (and talk about an eco-friendly purchasing decision!). Often times a move or décor change will prompt someone to sell excellent condition, like-new pieces, so why not be the one to benefit from it? Not your colour? Don’t be afraid to paint and customize pieces to your taste. (And you may just have some luck selling off any furniture you don’t want to carry along with you to your new space!)

Only recently entering the Canadian market, offers an incredible selection of discounted furniture that you can shop from the comfort of your home. While you might not get to see items in person, we like that you can read reviews from actual buyers which is something you don’t get when shopping at a store in person. They also offer custom upholstery on many items and will send fabric swatches to your door for free!
