Four design trends you'll see in 2017

The new year is upon us, and while many of us focus on giving up fast food and getting into a gym routine, it’s also a great time to reorganize and refresh your home. While we’d never suggest abiding to all the trends, it doesn’t hurt to know what is of the moment so you can keep these ideas in mind when you’re redecorating or adding some fresh accents to your space in 2017.

Thanks to Elle Décor, Domain, and Vogue, we’ve assembled some of the top trends to add to your repertoire this year.

  1. Terracotta

Because of a trend toward cool and white tones, we’ll see terracotta and similar warm materials take centre stage this year. According to Lauren Macer of Sisalla Interior Design, “this trend could add character and warmth to interiors again.” We’re all in with the cozy. While we’d argue that the brick wall was never “out,” this is great news for our District Condos, featuring exposed original brick walls.

  2. Jewel tones

Emerald green, navy and jewel tones inspired by metals, space and geology are getting their time under the sun in 2017. Whether it’s a raw-cut quartz piece for your coffee table or a green accent wall – you’ll be inspired to infuse these colours everywhere you can.

  3. Texture

Say hello (again) to velvet, pleating, mohair and chunky knits – layers of texture and lots of it are going to be king this year.

  4. Artisan wares

This year the DIY trend is being passed over in favour of artisan-designed wares and furniture. Not only does this trend give a boost to local makers, but it also means you can invest in pieces that are sure to last longer than the inexpensive Pinterest project alternative.
