Efficiency Tailored for Townhomes
Carbon Footprint
While townhome-style condominiums at StreetSide come in many different shapes and sizes, efficiency is always a focus. In general, our townhomes utilise electric heating over gas to reduce our carbon footprint. According to research from U.C. Davis, switching to electric heating can cut your pollution contribution by up to 72 %.
Materials
In addition to efficient heating, the exterior products chosen for StreetSide townhomes are designed to optimise sustainability and energy efficiency. Materials used in our siding, exterior brick and main structural components often incorporate sustainable content—one example being our roof shingles from Owens Corning. Owens publishes annual sustainability reports and, in 2023 alone, reduced its landfill contribution by nearly 15 %.
StreetSide also partners with suppliers who share our sustainability vision. Star Building Materials—which provides elements of our sub-structures—uses MiTek automation to precision-cut trusses, reducing lumber waste while elevating product quality.
Efficiency for Midrise Developments
Every StreetSide midrise begins with an energy-modelling process during pre-construction to inform the selection of the most efficient equipment.
Equipment
To curb emissions, StreetSide communities now include EV chargers—planned for Vue Taché, Flora North and Sage Village. Metro Condominiums in South Osborne goes further as a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD); studies show TOD residents spend about 16 % less time commuting than car owners, further cutting carbon output.
Heating Efficiency
Windows can undermine energy efficiency by letting heat in. Low-E coating reflects heat without blocking light; StreetSide specifies dual Low-E for extra sun control, easing cooling loads. You’ll find it in Vue Taché, Sage Village and The Banks.
Geothermal heating—harnessing energy below the earth’s surface—already serves communities such as Bridgwater Forest North and The MIX. Plans for Pilot & Porter at The Forks include full geothermal heating and cooling, aiming to make it one of our most energy-efficient projects.
Earned Designations
Thanks to these efforts, multiple StreetSide communities have earned the Certified Energy Efficient designation from Efficiency Manitoba—recognising energy performance at least 10 % better than the minimum standard. The Rise Condominiums and Vue Taché are certified, and projections indicate Sage Village and The Banks are on track as well.
Products Inspired by Efficiency
StreetSide specifies products across all communities—townhomes and mid-rises—that exemplify efficient, sustainable practice. Below is just a sample.
By combining electric heating, sustainable materials and advanced technologies, StreetSide shrinks its carbon footprint and boosts community-wide efficiency. Certified Energy Efficient designations and carefully chosen eco-friendly products reinforce our commitment to responsible development, delivering lower energy costs and healthier living for residents.
